- To promote higher education in Marine Science through M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programme
- SDMRI is offering Ph.D. programme in Marine Biology since May 2000, affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, India. This doctoral programme is open to students from other countries also.
- SDMRI is approved Satellite Centre of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and is offering M.Sc. course in "Marine Science and Ocean Management" and M.Phil courses in "Marine Microbiology" and "Marine Science and Ocean Management".
